[BETA] – Scale Sketches + Measurements Included

Sprinter Van Conversion Layout Planner

The details of a van build are quite tricky to plan due to the lack of straight lines, random knobs and holes, and the fact that the mounting surface you are dealing with is no more than a 2 mm thick sheet of metal. Within this planner, you will find scale drawings (with measurements) of a LWB Sprinter/Crafter van.

Plumbing and Wiring Schematics

Diesel Hydronic Heating System incl. air matrix, water heat exchanger, and underfloor heating

In our Sprinter van conversion, we chose to install an Eberspacher Diesel Hydronic system to heat our air through an air matrix, the floor with a radiating underfloor heating line, and the water via a heat exchanger. This is a relatively straightforward setup. It’s a closed system, it does NOT connect to the engine coolant, but it has its own tank and piping.

Here you will find a baseline to create your own system upon. Each person’s setup is different, so please use these schematics as a stepping stone in your research, and only DIY stuff you feel confident in.

Detailed Wiring Diagrams incl. solar, alternator and shore charging

The diagrams, show the electrical setup as it is in our van, today. It has worked properly and safely and if any changes occur, they will be added to this resource. Electricity is no joke and should be handled with respect. We began our electrics with a lot of research and consultations with professionals, and even so, there was a lot of working out to be done.

Each person’s setup is different, so please use these diagrams as a stepping stone in your research, and only DIY stuff you feel confident in.

DIY Pullout Couch-bed with storage

This is the magic couch we crafted in our van conversion. It is a very multifunctional structure: it is a couch, a pullout double bed, with a liftable grill to access the storage underneath. Also, the height of the frame allows for a swivel seat plate to pass over and swivel the passenger seats to create a full cinema lounge setup.

DIY Hammock Chair Securely Mounted Suspension Bars

We wanted hammock chairs in our van, but we could not use the in-built van ribs to suspend ourselves from the roof (otherwise we’ll bring the roof down…), so we did some maths and figure out how we can structurally support ourselves hanging off the roof.

Open Plan Lightweight Upper Back Door Cabinet

Build a shelf is easy, right? But in a van, where nothing is straight, the walls are curvy, and you can’t drive a screw into your wall, that complicates things quite a bit. In our Sprinter-Crafter van, we suspended an upper cupboard across the back doors (mounting it on the walls at either end). It is a lightweight aluminum-ply structure that can support 30-ish kilos (it’s never broken so far).
